Bard, Help Me with BJJ

Funny thing about marketing is that there’s always some new “thing” that everyone is obsessed with. Earlier in my career, it was social media, then big data. Now I can’t listen to the radio or watch TV without hearing about AI, more specifically ChatGPT. But I don’t blame people for being excited. For marketing professionals, it can be a game changer for overcoming writer’s block or brainstorming some new ideas. Case in point, I got access to Bard, Google’s AI tool, and asked it how I can improve my BJJ. Below is the response with no edits:

Not bad! With one command, I received enough to complete a blog post or a Twitter thread. But what if this is where we’re heading? Will people stop learning how to write, will students be tempted to cheat? Or could AI free us up to do more?

Even before Elon’s open letter about the risks to humanity, I learned about the many ethical and security concerns in grad school for data science. My machine learning professor cautioned that the more sophisticated the algorithm becomes, the more difficult it can be to explain it. Essentially that sexier isn’t always better. Terminator 3 anyone?

Regardless of what I think, and no matter how many AI experts warn of its risks, emerging technology like ChatGPT and Bard are here to stay. So it’s good to dig in. Read some articles, give it a try and decide for yourself. As for me, I’ll be cautiously optimistic.
